# Compress PDF

> Reduce the file size of a PDF inside a Zap with the Nitro PDF Services app.

Reduces the file size of a PDF while preserving its content and formatting. Compress always
targets the smallest output; to trade size against quality, use **Optimize PDF** and its profile.

## Inputs

| Field | Required | Description |

| **PDF File** | Yes | The PDF to compress. A file object or a file URL from an earlier step. |
| **Output Type** | Yes | *Download file* (default) or *Download URL*. |

## Outputs

    Compare **File Size (bytes)** against the original to report how much was saved.

## Example Zap

Compress every PDF added to a Dropbox folder and file the smaller copy elsewhere.

    Watch an `/inbox` folder.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Filter by Zapier">
    Only continue if the file name **ends with** `.pdf`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Nitro PDF Services — Compress PDF">
    * **PDF File** → the trigger's file.
    * **Output Type** → *Download file*.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Dropbox — Upload File">
    * **File** → **Compressed PDF File**.
    * **Folder** → `/compressed`, not the folder the trigger watches.
  </Step>

<Warning>
  Uploading back into the trigger's own folder will loop. Use a different folder or filter the Zap's
  own output out.
